A full power and lighting upgrade for a university common room
Project details
Whilst there are many popular common spaces across the University of Kent campus, this well-located and generously sized space was largely unused and begging to be updated, from its tired, clinical feel. The space was less than inspiring, relaxing or productive and was disappointingly underutilised by the students.
A full refurbishment project was commissioned, with the design planned by Stonepoint Builders, who appointed eco Electrical to deliver new power points but also to introduce an updated lighting design to help transform the space.
Delivery
Eco collaborated with manufacturer Lumi Plugin to introduce a selection of downlights, emergency downlights and PIR sensors across the common room.
The goal was to create a space that felt more homely than educational but with commercial level performance. The key to this was not just in the design, but in the product selection. Lumi Plugin were chosen by the University for their extensive range of downlights which offer integrated features such as PIR sensors and battery back-up for emergency situations. The contemporary design of their downlight fittings is the same across the range, which means commercial safety and environmental objectives are met, without compromising on the finish, and in this case, meeting the client’s brief in not appearing commercial.
